Some families have a calling – a passion and commitment to their trade, handed down from generation to generation. For the Palmer family of Albion, that calling is optometry. Dr. Maurice Palmer settled in Albion in 1949, opening a small practice that grew exponentially over the years, gaining loyal patients across the region and a reputation for friendly, knowledgeable eye care.
Maurice’s son, Dr. Mark Palmer, purchased the family business in 1977, helping it continue to thrive and grow by adding patients, taking its technology to the next level, and carving out the strong reputation it still has today. Mark’s daughter, Dr. Alison Kuester, joined the practice in 2013, working alongside her father until his retirement in 2015.
Today, Dr. Kuester is bringing the family practice back to its roots and its long-held values of knowledge, integrity, compassion and community by opening Palmer Eye Care in the heart of Albion. Palmer Eye Care is dedicated to living out the legacy set in motion by Dr. Maurice Palmer, offering comprehensive family eye care services, as well as specialized solutions designed to fit each patient’s unique needs.

Dr. Kuester graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Biological studies. She then went on to attend The Ohio State University College of Optometry, where she received her Doctorate of Optometry in 2007. After graduating, she held externships with the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Health System in Tucson, Arizona, and the White River Junction Veterans Administration Health System in White River Junction, Vermont. She completed an additional year of ocular disease residency at The Eye Center of Toledo, Ohio, in July 2008.
Dr. Kuester is a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association, as well as the Nebraska Optometric Association.
When she’s not at the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two young sons and staying involved in the Albion community.
